1. I arranged to buy a '73 BMW R75/5 rolling frame.

2. I also found a '72 R75/5 insurance write-off. Frame status
is "non-repairable" due to major hurt-hurts. The motor
is believed to run (but I need to get this confirmed).

3. I have a '78 Dnepr MT-10/36 which *might* (with some futzing)
take a /5 BMW motor. I HAVE JUST BEGUN to futz!

4. The vendor for [2] also has a 1977 BMW R60/6 with a "repairable"
status. That means it's registerable provided that a different motor
is installed and a U-built tag applied for.

My track record on projects isn't all that great. However, I have
never been so retired before. And I have a shop manual, a set of
cheap tools and a can-do attitude! Also, I never try and force
anything, I just reach for a bigger hammer.

By the time the dust settles I hope to have a BWM-powered hack rig
and one or two other airheads to ride (or sell).

ps. I saw an Craig's ad from a local dealership holding a liquidation
sale. Naturally I went tear-assing down there and managed to score
a $200 spare trailer wheel for $40 as well as a few other goodies
such as windscreens, mounting kits and a sidecar fender. At least,
that's what it's going to be once I've customized it a bit.

Car pay D M,

SQ

What kind of futzing? How good are you with a torch and welding
equipment? Have dirt track in the area? Talk to some of the guys find
out where a good fabricator is. 8^) As a bonus you get to watch the
round track boys go sideways in their cage.

Mangled forks; wheel nowhere near round. But the rolling frame
has all that stuff in good (I hope) shape. I'm more concerned
about motor damage.

The Dnepr already has a sidecar. I want to replace the motor
and as much of the drive train as possible.

Oh puhlease. I'm sure grayer more experienced heads than mine would
agree. Forks can be replaced, wheels replaced. Long as the frame is
straight all is good...insurance dweebs always price based on OEM new
parts (idiots)

BMWOA likely has someone who can tell you how to. Me I'd get
measurements at all mounts and mock it up with cardboard or something.

Forgot one thing Sean and it's not a little one. Go take some welding
classes, buy an Oxy/Acl rig a good used MIG welder...lots of scrap
metal(s) to practice on. 8^) Might not save money...but will be more
satisfying.
