Detection And Response

Quick rundown.

Select an emergency contact.
Run app.
If app detects a fall (configurable sensitivity) it will then ring for
(default) 30 secs and enable GPS, and display an "I am OK" button.

If the "I'm OK" button is pressed, or the phone moves more than eight (I
think) feet it will send an SMS including GPS coordinates and a map link
(with about 45 chars of free text).

I've tested it (high sensitivity, drop phone on something soft) and it
worked as expected.

I hope nobody needs it - but if you do, you may need it a lot.

* Disclaimer no I'm not involved with it in any way other than having it
on my phone.

Thanks for the heads-up.

It'll be a while before I can teach my parents to use a touch screen, so in
the meantime I've gotten them "old folk" 'phones with massive keypad,
massive display and a big orange "SOS" button - though obviously it'd be
better for the 'phone to detect when they're not OK than for them to
deterimine it themselves (my father, for example, demanded I call off the
ambulance when he had a heart attack a few years back, citing "I'll be fine,
I just need a sit-down")..

As for me laying the bike down... Well, hasn't happened for nearly the past
three decades, but they'd be famous last words... I think I'll get myself to
the market hence 'n' give it a whirl.

It should be worth noting that when looking for it through the market on a
'phone, you should do a search for "CRADAR."

I had to search for the author, and then look at their other apps.

That's because Google's too smart for itself (or rather, it's geared toward
the illiteracy of the average Septic). It assumes you actually wanted to
search for "radar," so gives those results instead.

It does eventually list CRADAR, at position 17 down the results list.

Unfortunately, I can't use it in its current form with my current 'phone -
on one sensitivity level it doesn't pick anything up (ok, so I didn't throw
my 'phone at the wall), whilst on the immediate next setting it triggers at
a bee's fart. From what I've seen of the comments, I'm not alone with this
problem - so I'm hoping the author develops some form of calibration system
to make it work with all 'phones.

To make things easier, those with either Google Goggles or a bar code
scanner app can go to http://yak.net.au/t1/cradar.jpg then point their
'phone at the screen.

Those who don't have Goggles yet - get 'em! Not only is it fun to search by
picture, but it's the quickest QR reader I've found.

If you just clicked on the link that the OP posted, it will take you to
the android market web interface, and if you sign in using the same
account you use on your phone, and click the install button, the app
will install on your phone pretty much instantaneously without you
needing to search for anything or even open the market app on your
phone. It's like magic, except it isn't.

The best thing I ever did for my dad was to buy him a six button TV
remote. The thing is huge and the buttons light up when you press any
one.

At 97 he can't cope with a remote which has more buttons than this
keyboard.
