No1 son's new acquisition. As he's just gone 16, I managed to get him (with
his own hard earned too!) an Aprilia RX50. Stolen/recovered, then stolen and
recovered for the second time from the same owner! Originally advertised for
£700, final price £150! Reeesult.
At least the scrotes who nicked it only removed the wiring/lights/clocks/ign
switch/airbox. All easily available and sourced for <£120 all in. New tyres,
fitted today also new brakepads, C&S set. A free 'evaluation sample' from
our battery supplier Yuasa, sorted the battery. Indicators, rev
counter/speedo cables, wheel bearings etc from my 'stock' Runs very sweetly
now and only a bit of wiring to sort before the MOT next week. Then the 'big
day' (first ride on his own bike). I guess I'm going to lose as much sleep
as I did when SO got her first bike.
I really like teaching him to do the work himself. He really has a natural
ability for things mechanical (Genetics does work. Honest).
A very happy teenager is he, especially as he is waiting for the results of
his final appraisal next thurs of his apprentice assessment day last week at
Rolls Royce Military Aero Engines Divison. I hope he gets this, I really,
really do.
Parenthood can be pretty cool sometimes.

You don't mention buying a BFO lock, a shotgun or a
rottweiler-on-bad-acid.

Personally, I'd get all three.

My position was (and, to be honest, largely remains) one of complete ambiguity.

Even though I do live in a much less pikey area than the seller, I think
your words are wise ones. This model has to be one of the most nicked bikes
on the planet. 'Scrote magnet' doesn't even come close.
