bicycle speedo magnet

I am about to fix a cycle speedo to Clare's V50.

Unlike all my bikes, hers has cast wheels, so I can't just clip the
magnet to the spokes.

A bit of a google shows a few ideas on mounting, but in case there are
more, what are people using?

Seems the usual is to use a rare earth magnet, and araldite it to the
disk mounting?

Are you going to it, or is it coming to you?

Aralditing is over-kill......double sided tape and/or insulting tape
work quite adequately upto atleast 200 kph. ;-)

The magnet that comes with the trip computer will usually work just
fine. Typically, the magnet is covered in some black plastic, which,
with judicious carving can be made to suit the required contour.

Sometimes, if you are lucky, the standard style fittment works.
I took the old Cateye type magnet, which had been fitted between two
spokes on the Intruder's wheel, and it just clipped and screwed onto the
front disk rotor of the RZ like it was made for the job. :-)

CrazyCam

The normal magnet that comes with it should be fine

Clare and the V50 are on walk/ride-about. May have started during your
absence. I think she going to clean up Zebee's place. Or frighten
Zebee into doing it before she gets there.

I had a mother thus I know these things. :-)

If you can't use the original, the magnet from a cheap pickup tool works
well. Of course I used araldite.

I used Silastic for the first one (which was for a cruise-control and was
mounted on the disc carrier).
I left it a weekend and it's lasted 30,000 or so.
I did the same for a second one which I left cure for an hour or so and
which I lost at 1hour and 5 mins when I hit 100kph.

If you cable-tie the sensor to a fork leg, put it toward the front rather
than the back of the fork. That way if it moves a bit and hets hit by the
magnet, it'll be pushed away. If it's on the back of the fork leg, it'll
get jammed between the disk and the fork. Not nice.

I took an old hard disc apart and used the magnet from the voice coils. 2 drops of superglue
combined with the magnetic field makes the magnet unmoveable.

I don't mind...

And growing old, young Martin, is something to which you can only aspire.

I've managed to do it.

And, I might add, I've had a lot of fun doing it. And I intend to continue
to *enjoy* growing old for a considerable time yet.

See above.
