Hi Vic, good to read you here. You're right about some of the
poster's feelings about the way things seem(ed) to be here. What most
people see, and all they see, are what is posted (in typed words)
here. Most never get to meet in real life, never get to look into
another poster's eyes, hear the inflection in the voice, see a smile
or a frown. On newsgroups, emails, forums, all you see is just
printed words that have to be interpreted by the reader. The reader
can't actually see the "evil grin", the little "wink and nod", the
"goofy grin".
My run-in with Bill stemmed from a misunderstanding and mistaken
identity. Years ago, Joe and I rode with father and son. We
considered them friends. Then one day some asshat decided to stir up
trouble and forged my IP on some post that was made on a newsgroup I
had never even been to. Evidently it was someone who didn't like the
Walkers and didn't like me either. Well, that was enough for them...
and the chase was on. I was called every name in the book and then
some. Other posters took up for me and they too were attacked. It
was a bad scene. Some left the group because of it. I stayed because
I'm just too stubborn to give up.
I tried for a long time, to show "them" I wasn't the person they made
me out to be but like Vic said, they would never admit they were
wrong, not in a million years. Crap was thrown from both sides but
you know what, that's all in the past. That's where it needs to stay.
I admired Bill for he's fierce loyalty, his reverence for Veterans,
his keen (and sometimes warped) sense of humor and his dogged
determination. He made a fine friend for a lot of you and for that, I
am truly grateful.
Yes, I'll admit that at first I was hurt and angered by their somewhat
callous words, their choice of names for me, but I finally learned
that words only have meaning if you give them meaning.
I may get slam-dunked for this post but that's ok, I'll deal with it
best I can. I miss Bill but one day I hope to meet up with him, hug
his neck and call him friend once more. I figure he's out there
somewhere, riding the rims off the Green One, or maybe he's upgraded
to one of those "poser" bikes... Nawh, Bill was a rider. ;^) <that's a
wink and a smile, y'all>
Now for the last word on this: if all would be so kind, please refrain
from using the term "scaly-legged barhide". I just knocked off the
scales, shaved my legs and they are as smooth as a baby's butt. :-)
Y'all have a topnotch weekend,
May see ya 'round the bend.
The ride is just beginning,
Let's hope it has no end.
Just type y'er reports n'er ending,
And forget not to press "send".
Ride swift, have fun and come home safe.
Catch y'all later.
Sunny
