Mine just gave out taking the battery and headlight with it.
I saw on this website
http://www.vlc.com.au/~justin/about/...g_replace.html a
suggestion that it be replaced with a Yamaha R1 reg/rec.
I was just wondering if anyone else has done this mod?

Thanks
Eddie

Don't know if this is relevant, but had the same problem on the 400,
replaced it with a heavy duty one, (cant remember what brand..will look when
I get home tonight if you are interested) haven't had a problem with it
since (except the possible alternator!). I'm only a newbie tho' so not real
sure.

Eddie,
I had a '97 bird and it burnt out the regulator/rectifier at 30,000 K's,
also taking the battery and head lights with it.. I bought a second hand one
from a wrecker and mounted it on a heat sink with a CPU (12v) fan over the
top hardwired into the tail light. The bike then went on to do 80,000 K's
without a problem. The whole mod took me about 4 hrs to fit and $30 from the
computer store.
Go to:
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/S.../reg-rect.html
and have a read.
