Dorna has taken a 5 year contract to promote BSB. There's been all sorts
of rumours about what this might mean from expanding into a European
championship to world wide TV rights. TV coverage in Japan and Aus is
thought to be important given the riders from those countries. It's hard
to imagine Flaminni allowing Dorna to turn it into an alternate WSB so
maybe this is a standoff. There's plenty of potential in there for
conspiracy theories!
What's good about it in the short term is the stability it brings. BSB
has hung on a knife edge financially each winter for years which makes
it hard for the teams to plan and get sponsorship. It also means that
Dorna are likely to sell TV coverage to the BBC (or someone else) of
MotoGP and BSB combined.
