Reliable 750SS?!

"Neil says it's the most reliable bike he's ever had!"

Next letter along on the same subject:

"If there's petrol in the tank and juice in the battery it starts"

Small problem there then...

Um - had a 1938 Velo MSS which had been dismantled and in 1939 left in a
box 'for the duration'.

Duration passed and in 1962 it was remantled and petrol put in the tank.
No battery, mind...

Carb was tckled and it started first poke.

Wish I still had it.

Sob!

You should have got him to order it and let you know when it was in.

Heh.

I do wonder at CB though, apart from Rick do any of them know what
they're doing with old bikes?

Basically, no. Everyone just likes faffing with ****ing old failures
that function fitfully, if at all. A bit like a sort of zimmer frame Top
Gear.

Actually, Jim's Katana is rather good.

Trouble is, all this buggering about with old nails somehow has to be
fitted into the framework of "a real job", which means nobody ever has
the time to finish their projects.

That said, I dug out the TS250 this weekend and removed a few more bits
from the frame. I also opened a large cardboad box containing
I'd-forgotten-what ordered on eBay and never actually looked at.

"Blimey. An NOS rear mudguard. Oh, and a set of indicators..."

Yeah I forgot that most of the contributors are part time. I also read
Practical Classics and they seem to have a larger proportion of full
time employees, thankfully Bauer also seem to be leaving it alone.

Better get on with it then.

I'm currently trying to suppress a hankering for a Brit single and an
RGV, the only thing saving me so far is that I can't find a blue vj22
for sale.

According to my boss (who has something in the region of 30 brit bikes
and is on the way to the ferry for a round Europe trip on his Ariel -
git), reckoned that prices at Stafford this weekend were crazy high, so
much for the recession keeping classic prices down.

Just got my copy. I don't think a single set of head races bad for 30k
miles and 13 years. Wheel bearings, yes, two rear sets is a bit
excessive. Neutral light switches, again, yeah, they nrmally last for
ever, but it's not like it's a hard or expensive thing to replace.

Re tank: Baines has leak tested it, yes, so things are moving on that
front.
