Back in the 1950's, Pall Mall cigarette packages had a motto that
said,
"Wherever Peculiar People Congregate", and gay men who were cruising
a bar would make a point of placing a distinctively red pack of Pall
Malls on the bar and place their Zippo lighter neatly on top of it to
attract other "peculiar people" to bum a smoke.

And, honestly now, didn't the little bell boy in the "Call for Phillip
Morris" commercials you saw on TV look like a little fag?
