The ride to work today was pretty chilly. I go about 12 miles north on the
Sam Houston Tollway and by the time I got to work at 8:30 my fingers were
hurting pretty good. I have brand new gloves I got from Republic back when
it snowed a few Fridays ago. They worked good in low speed 30 something
temperatures and snow but today's 20's with near 90 mph wind chill were
beyond their capacity to keep my digits toasty. Are there any non-electric
gloves that can keep the cold out when it gets REAL cold?

We only got to 12 degrees here but its warming up quick...Its 17 out now. If
Big Eds carbs can handle these temps, I want to ride down to Texarkana and
see BJ.

Putting your hands in your pockets may help. I do that at the late season
football games and can still see all the action.

Are your ghosts sensitive to the cold?

Big Ed is on a high-carb program, he's hot, some would say.

The ghosts aren't sensitive enough to head south for the winter. I pulled
the switch housing apart again last week and the problem goes away while the
switch housing is apart and even for the rest of the day it seems. But the
next day I start the bike and it's 50-50 whether the blinker is on or not.
It doesn't seem as persistent once I'm under way as it was when it first
appeared but it's still a pita. As for putting my hands in my pockets, they
won't fit with my gloves on and if I try to take them off I'm afraid they
might blow away and I'd be without. I have hid a hand at a time behind my
knees, laid them on my rocker boxes and even pulled the fingers back down to
the palm of the glove for a shot of warmth but this afternoon I rode over to
Academy and bought some Manzella XL Tundra Mitts that are promising looking
waterproof mittens. I might take them for a test ride tonight when it gets
cold.

I'm not sure my carb is handling the 20's that well. It takes a long time to
get the bike warm enough not to cough and die at idle and once warm it
occasionally blubbers at freeway speeds. It could be icing up I don't know.

Thanks for the tip. I ended up buying some waterproof thinsulate mittens
from Academy.
They worked very well this morning on the ride to work. I don't know how
cold it was
but probably below 30. The only problem was a missed shift when my fingers
slipped off
the clutch lever. I thought I ripped some fingernails off but no, just stung
a bit.
