Is there no longer any such thing as an intermediate tire with the
spec tire rule? Seems like it would've been a perfect application.

Indeed, and no. And they're not allowed to cut slicks either.

Time was when slicks still worked pretty well until there was actual
standing water, but apparently they couldn't get enough heat into them.

Lorezo's and De Angelis' accidents both appeared to be from crossing
the wet lines at the track edge. I didn't watch Rossi's crash closely
enough to see if he crossed the line at the 1st apex of the chicane.
I think he's been quoted as saying just what you're suggesting, that
the left side of the tire just wasn't warm enough.

Pedrosa seemed scared to death by the conditions. He was vastly
slower than Dovi in the later stages of the race.

I was stoked that Edwards went as well as he did and was hoping he
could turn this into a win since the chance probably won't come
again. If De Puniet hadn't re-passed him I'll wager he could have
diced for the win.

As long as everyone's starting with the same tires what difference
does it make if they cut the slicks? I don't see the logic there. It
would seem to be a much safer alternative than what played out Sunday.

Its because there is a removal of rider choice. I can't blame Pedrosa
for being worried about crashing, An Intermediate is quite a different
tyre to a slick - Bridgestone are a bunch of cheapskates.
