Dumb question about parking

As I sink deeper into the mire of the motorcycling world, I've come to
realise there's so much I don't know.

Tonight's conundrum concerns parking motorcycles. Where can you legally
park, what do you do if you use a carpark where you're supposed to leave a
voucher in your windscreen? What about pavemnts? Are there any good
websites explaining the do's and don't's?

all of the pay & display car parks around here have separate areas for
motorcycles, which are free.

I noticed in Cardiff the other day, separate bays for motorcycles and
bicycles. Both had security hoops but it clearly stated that motorcyclists
would be fined for using the bicycle bays. Not sure how they would enforce
that as my V5 says "bicycle" under taxation class.

Although we generally park on pavements, it is I believe illegal and some
councils will ticket you for it. Others like Leeds have motorbike parking
bays.

If in doubt, ask an attendant.

If it is a sticker on the screen job, let your conscience decide if you
buy one or not. As it may blow away ....

Every council and car park operator has their own rules. Some make it
easy to find out what those rules are (by mentioning motorcycles on
the signs in the car park, or by putting the information on their web
site) but others don't. www.motorcycleparking.com has useful
information for London and some other cities. It's well worth taking
the trouble to find out what the rules are: in several places you can
park a bike, free, in pay & display and/or residents only spaces.

Where you are expected to display a ticket, the advice often given is
to write "Motorcycle" and your reg. no. on the ticket, to stop anyone
else taking it to use. I've also seen advice to take a photo of the
ticket on your bike in case it blows away, but don't know whether this
would actually get you off a fine.

Which reminds me of a thought (yes, yes) that popped into my head the
other day: if one was riding a bicycle and had a paramotor unit
strapped to one's back but not physically attached to the bicycle,
would the combination class as a motor vehicle? There's probably some
law against using propellers or emitting excessive slipstream, mind.

Not surprisingly, YouTube has the video.

We've simply applied common sense - never had a problem.

If you park in a regular bay, buy a ticket as if it was a car.

I usually plonk the bike somewhere I think is suitable and chance it.
Which is how I ended up paying 60 quid for a haircut a few weeks ago.

I buy one and use my phone to take a photo of the ticket in case of it being
knicked
