There seems to be a glut of 400/4 on ebay atm, I would welcome any views on
how original this one is and its likely value.

The handle for lifting it onto the centrestand is missing.

And you can't get that anymore, unless you get very lucky on fleabay. At
least it's got the tooltray, but it seems to be missing the lid, which I
believe is still available.

Of course if the OP is after one with a grabhandle, he could bid on
mine, otherwise known as item 120145849553.

As is the tool tray cover. Last time I needed one, DS had them in
stock. At least it has the tray itself.

Overall it looks pretty nice, but I'd be a bot concerned that it's
only covered 160 miles on the last ten years, TBH. Means it's probably
never been properly run-in after its "nut and bolt" rebuild, so
caution may be required. And I bet the front semi-floating caliper's
seized after all that non-use.

Brightwork all looks present and correct (apart from the
aforementioned grab handle) as does the seat. I notice some oil
staining next to the gearchange - again, if it's only done 160 miles
since a total rebuild I'd be a bit wary.

TOG's the man for values, of course, and it seems like prices might
have gone up a tad since I got rid of mine, but I reckon it might
fetch 1750, perhaps 2 grand if it's as good as it looks and he gets
really lucky.

Nigel, Nigel, Nigel. It would look like a monkey bike with you perched on
it.

Now that you mention it, no. Carry on by all means. I've played
this game with a cow-orker who has serial bike acquisition syndrome
and it's the best sort of wicked fun.
