Any recommendations for a SOHO ADSL Modem/Wireless (gigabit) router with
incorporated VPN (not just passthrough)

The Gigabit side is optional as it will be connected to a Gig switch but the
4 ports in a_n_other location would be useful.

I have a Draytek Vigor 2820Vn that I'm fairly happy with. The VoIP bit
isn't all that. It only has one gigabit port though. The occasional
(probably Vuze induced) crash, and one laptop that sometimes disconnects
from it's wireless for no reason - probably more down to the laptop.

Yeah that's one option, thanks. Bookmarked.
Did Draytek get over their reliability wobbles of a few years ago?

I had one of those waiting on the doorstep for me when I got home,
replacement for an unreliable Linksys PoS.

I get that occasionally with my laptop, & changing the WiFi channel
always sorts it, for a few months at least.

I've got one of those. This may not affect you as I suspect it's a
problem relating purely to Nortel VPN passthrough but it took me weeks
to get it resolved.

The VPN client on the laptop would work for a while (minutes to hours)
then I wouldn't be able to access any resources on the 'far' side even
though the VPN client appeared to be connected. The only way to
resolve it was to reboot the laptop whereupon it would be OK until it
happened again.

I spent a long time with Draytek support via email gathering
diagnostics to no avail. Then we started stepping back through
firmware releases. At one point it stabilised using a wired connection
then we stepped back a few more and it became stable over wireless.

I'm still on that firmware release and the connection is now
reasonably stable. I have occasional drop-outs but I don't know if
they are being caused at my end or the remote end. The older firmware
release is missing management functionality I was using but at least
it now works.

As far as Draytek support are concerned my problem is resolved. I'd
like to see whatever the firmware issue is fixed so I can go back to
the later releases but I recognise my issue may be niche.
