I think Sir will find that the day Sir is celebrating is not the one
celebrated variously as Victoria and Canada Day on the Monday prior to may
24th in the former colony known as Canada which this year falls upon the
23rd but May 24th itself which is tomorrow.

Point taken, but it is the spirit (in particular the drinkable kind)
that counts.

BTW "Canada Day" is July 1, the anniversary of the British North
America Act of 1867 that created the Dominion of Canada.

A mari usque ad mare.

You didn't celebrate Empire Day on May 24th when you were a kid?
Or had it morphed into Commonwealth Day by then? Or worse yet your
homogenised "No more sheep-dog" Days?

Still do mate, still do. And if I had a flag pole my little Union Flag
what I am currently waving at the screen would be proudly hung from that
today.

You Commonwealth types need to understand how Britain views the
Commonwealth.

A bit like a distant cousin: you know they're there, and you know you
have to send a Xmas card or there'll be ructions, and you feel obliged
to turn up for big weddings, and similar, but the rest of the time you
forget all about them.

1958 Empire Day changed to Commonwealth Day. Are you really that
young, for one so grey?

> Never heard of that either.

Since 1976 it's been the second Monday in March.

All according to Wikipedia...

We hung the Hammer and Sickle over the cadet-hut one Empire Day around 1957
