This caught my eye today, looks a bit like a Superdream but with
automatic transmission. Looks tidy but not sure how desireable it
should be.

That's exactly what it is. I'm amazed you've never heard of it.

A tad slow, apparently: top whack about the same as a 250, but with more
torque. Still popular with people who've had a left arm or leg injury.

Indeed. AKA a 'Hawk' IIRC (Or perhaps just in the US market?)

I can't beleive he didn't invent it.

Honda stuck the Hawk name on a few bikes in the US. The CB450 was
called the Hawk, I think

That photograph looks like an archive brochure shot. I've asked the
seller if he has a more up-to-date pic. I might have a punt at this.

I can't believe it's not butter.

They also did an auto version of the CB750, for Merkania.

I rode one, it felt like riding a 250 superdream, but bigger and no
faster.

Hmmm - it must have slipped under my radar. Looks like a very pretty
example but not really my thing and too many bies already......

Back in the 80's I wanted a 400 engine to put in my 250N but so did
everyone
else so I ended up with a 400 automatic engine. The manual gearbox
drops in
once you've filed off a bit of clearance on the inner crankcase.
I remember thinking it must have been expensive to tool up for
different crankcases for such a low selling model.....

A list that gets shorter as the years pass :-)

Well,he's posted some more pix, which reveal that the thing has been
badly resprayed. I'll leave well alone.

Now, I still need a Kawasaki Z750 twin.
