Here in Victoria it is perfectly legal to park your bike on the footpath. In
Melbourne CBD you see many bikes parked on the footpath. What is the law in
other states?

In NSW you are encouraged and welcomed to park your bike on the footpath in
return for a generous monetary contribution to the local council or state
government.

In NSW, the fine for parking on the footpath ($65 I think) is cheaper
than any other parking fine.

If you're going to park illegally, it's better to do that than anything
else.

When I lived in newtown I parked on the footpath for a year outside my
house. Parking Inspectors never gave me a ticket, though the ticketed
cars in front of my place occasionly.

It's a big state. There's room for lots of different roads.
Besides, riding a sportsbike through the twisties in the hills might be
a shedload of fun, but it's certainly not the only way to enjoy
motorcycling. I'm told a GS Adventure is quite nice in the Kimberly.

It's just Perth and Freo that's boring.

I've just got back to aus after 7 years abroad, maybe it was the
comparison to other countries or maybe things have changed, but this
country seems to have gone mad! The things that used to be good about
australia, the good life, easygoing people, nice lifestyle etc have all
gone out the window. The real terror in my mind, isnt a bomb going off
in the subway killing maybe less people than dies of lung cancer from
smoking each year, its much more insidious than that.

Its the slow quiet desperate death that occurs in the margins; The
aussie battler doing it harder than usual, adding up the bills each
week and finding that things just arent going to work out. You work
more and more overtime, scrape and scratch to get along, try to do the
right thing, but deep down i think i alot of people are nervous... the
nervousness makes them selfish and defensive, looking out for
themselves instead of lending a hand. Despite good intentions, people
are worried of getting caught out by whoever; the government, the cops,
the council, phone company, boss or take your choice. And these are
good honest people. Where is the time to just sit down and talk?
Where is the chance to get out to the beach without waorrying about
cost of petrol, parking tickets, not enough hours in the day, sunburn,
cops or anything else you care to mention?

The lifestyle just isnt there anymore, and i for one am thinking of
relocating from sydney to anywhere else after having been back for 3
months. Another state or another country. The cost of life here is
mad. We are over regulated and overcharged for everything, but the
people doing the producing are getting short changed as well. That
huge band of 'middle men' is squeezing the life out of this country.

On a bike related note, i got myself a nice vf750 3 weeks ago, had a
car since i got here. I live in the city, cant park anywhere,
apartment management board wont let me park in the car park, council
wont let me park on the street, get charged the same as cars for
everything; tolls, parking etc. Where is the fair go? Even with the
high price of gas though, the bike puts a smile on my face. Rode up
the pacific highway on the weekend, got it cranked over. Temporary
amnesia is a bliss~
