I was at home today, and the MotoGP happened to be on TV around
lunchtime...
The final result is here,
http://www.motogp.com/en/Results+Sta...FRA/MotoGP/FP1, which
reflects the state of play after about 45 mins - at that point, some
light rain started. So, ironically, while they've officially changed
back from a 45 min session to an full hour, today they were stuck with
45 mins again.
Anyway, it was quite interesting to watch. They all came out pretty
much as soon as the track opened, and De Puniet, perhaps spurred on by
being at his home GP, was fast straight away, and stayed near the top
for the whole session. Stoner did 3 laps and went back to his pit for
15 mins - for a while it looked like there might be a problem, but
then he came out with an adjusted bike and went fastest (for a while).
The two Hondas were quite quick through the whole session, and it was
only near the end that Dovi grabbed provisional pole.
The Suzukis were also looking quick, with Vermeulen consistently
faster than Capi. He won in the wet here in 07, so must quite like
the place, but I bet he's itching to win a dry race.
Special mention to Melandri again - always in the top 10, and was in
the top 3 on and off as the times ticked down. He finally placed 8th,
with a time identical to Lorenzos, and in front of both the Tech 3
Yamahas.
Tenth onwards was the usual collection of Ducatis and customer Yamahas
and Hondas.
