It lives - but only after a false start. Also speedo/rev counter cable inner suppliers.

Motor back in the 2C/375 Morini this morning. Easier than getting it out
of the other one with a smidgen of copper grease on the bolts and a
trolley jack under it to help line things up.

Stuck the carbs, tank and exhaust system back on temporarily
(remembering that the silencer mounting can't line up on the 250 frame
and requires a cunning bracket and spacer). Jury rigged the NLM new
style ignition transducer and coils unit. This can't stay where it is at
the moment as it would get in the way of the battery. Hooked it up to
the output from the stator coil, guessed which sender wire goes to which
coil for which cylinder, and kicked, and kicked...

Not a peep out of it. Obviously the coil connections reversed. Swapped
them - no difference. Pulled the front plug out - no spark.

So what was the problem (now sorted) oh FOAK? Prace bets now.

Only downer was deciding to connect up the rev counter to see how slowly
I could get it idling reliably. The inner cable must have rusted when
standing on the Forgotten Error and on re-starting it instantly tied
itself in a knot (yes I know I should have given it a twist with my
fingers first). Anyone know anywhere that makes up new speedo cable
inners? The outer straightened out OK but naturally the inner sheared.
Being a rarish 250 mechanical tacho (the 350s and 500s use electronic
ones) NLM may not be able to supply a new complete cable.

Very perceptive. I had connected the dedicated strap from frame to
motor, and the earth lead from the ignition unit to the frame. However,
one can't have been making very good contact. Shifted things a bit so
that they both picked up on the same set screw and it started second
kick (so in fact as luck would have it the first guess at the sender
connections turns out to have been wrong anyway.
