Most people I know use something like TIVO. You can set it to skip the
adverts.

Still doesn't really help when it's a live broadcast though. You skip
adverts, but you also effectively skip a couple of laps of the race at
the same time.

But they still miss the racing, absolute shite it was & I got up early to
watch it ffs.

TBF it was pretty **** however you watched it. Advert breaks might at
least have given one the idea that possibly one had missed something.
Not for long ,of course, but it would have been more excitement than
the race itself generated/
..
