That's the R80 through it's 19th consecutive MOT with no gripes.

I'm wondering about replacing the brake hose with braided though (as
it's the original and hence 21 years old. As it's part flexible and part
rigid, any suggestions?

Heh - last year I was looking to buy an RS of '78/79 vintage, which
still had its original brake hoses.

Aeroquip don't seem to have a straightforward catalogue, Hel don't list
the R80RT of the right vintage, nor do Goodridge or Earles.

Motorworks don't list one (new or aftermarket), nor do Motobins.

I wonder what BMW charge for such things..?

Quite probably a lot less than you think. Ask Motorworks or MotoBins.

Find your local Aeroquip fitter, give them a ring and they'll make up
the pipes with whatever fittings you want and may also fit them for you
if you ask nicely.

My Dad used to run such a place[1] and they quite often had bikes
(mostly racer types) in to make up pipes, only takes a couple of minutes
per pipe - was my Saturday job for a while. Doing bikes was a lot easier
than manhandling massive hydraulic ship hose, which is what they did
most of the time.

You might want to look at the datestamp on the flexible bits (if
such exists). AFAIR all the Japanese rubber-coated hoses I've seen had a
BBE date of four years after manufacture... ...and they _were_ a
replacement item in the worksiop Manuel.

I think if you call either MW or MB you will find they do supply though.

I want some spiffy stainless ones for the 100RS oil cooler, 21 years old now
and I'm sure it deserves it.
