Discovered a new Aussie based bike insurance co who are providing what
appears to be better prices. Yes, there is something in it for me.
Possible more bike shipping because of the overseas benefits for our
clients. No, they are not paying me commissions.

They approached me at the Sydney Motorcycle Show in November 2006, not
knowing what I do - anyways they have quoted me for my bike ($431 with
Swann) and Maggie's bike ($521with Swann) a price which was only $12
more than our previous insurer charged us for Maggie's Z750 Kawasaki
on it's own - yes, 2 bikes insured for the price of one. I bought the
policy - Fully Comp.

That's 2 bikes on the same policy and I could have added 2 more bikes
- don't know what that would have done to the premium.

On top of that they will for a small extra premium Fully Comp cover
both our bikes (with Breakdown cover) while they are in New Zealand -
only $96 per bike which is less than 50% of what the 3 NZ insurance
providers have charged previous clients of ours. So, for people
thinking of using our shipping service to NZ you can insure your bike
with them and for bugger all extra get it covered Fully Comp in while
you're on your NZ touring holiday. Bloody magic!

We're now having discussions about the same deal for our clients who
use our UK Bike Shipping service and for those coming on our 2007 Isle
of Man TT Tour.

I think we're onto a good thing, here.

Go to our web site www.getrouted.com.au and on the Links page click on
the logo to get a quote for your bike/s.

The only proviso I would add is that we're both senior motorcycling
citizens with 15 and 40 years riding experience and long time No Claim
Bonus holders with our previous insurer.

And now we're off to NZ to enjoy 12 days riding pleasure - the farkin
rain had better have stopped.

Kind regards
Dave Milligan

Sounds ok, but it is probaby worthwhile reading their privacy statement and
considering the merits of Southern Rock Insurance Co.

Looks interesting Dave, the site quoted me $617.22 for the TDM900, K100RS
sidecar(although they don't list sidecars in extras, email question sent)
and Maries R1150R. No usage limit like Shannons either. Same as you
though; mature riders, full no claim and garged bikes must make a
difference.

They appear fractionally cheaper for me (1 bike, 33 y.o rider , rating 1, garaged).

I'm currently insured through QBE with a premium of $466. The online quote through eBike is $420.

Might be worthwhile having a look at their T&C and the finer details.

brilliant

slow arse website

We are unable to continue with your Quote due to one or more of your
answers:
We are sorry but we are only able to insure your particular bike for Third
Party risks.
If this is an answer which you can honestly alter, Click Here to correct the
problem.

looking into their policies they provide a breakdown service run through
www.247roadservices.com.au

calling 247 they didnt really know a great deal as to what was actually
covered

in the end i found out that its a 3 star service which covers batteries,
fuel and a whopping
great big 20k tow in the metro area , no country coverage

btw the price of 3rd party property wasnt great $20 a month for 1 bike

What a coincidence. I discovered them yesterday when I was googling for
a quote. They quoted about $50 cheaper than my current quote with
Western QBE. They aren't "aussie based". Their parent company is
registered in Gibraltar, probably for tax purposes, and they already
operate in the UK and NZ. Having said that they are required to fulfil
all the same requirements all financial services companies operating in
Australia do, so that is some sort of reassurance. I googled for some
opinions and from the few hits I read they seem to have a pretty good
reputation with some riders in the UK.

It isn't listed on their website, but apparently they offer free $4000
cover for riding gear damaged in an accident, slightly better than the
free $3500 gear cover that WesternQBE just introduced a month or two back.

They mustn't have many customers here yet, because I got a quote
yesterday, and twice today they called me back.. the first time gauging
how keen I was to sign up with them, and to ask for comment on their
website. Can't say I had any of the problems J5 seemed to report. I
found their site to be pretty fast and responsive. The saved quote
feature is pretty good.. and you can go back and easily change small
aspects of the quote to get a new quote simply, and without having to
re-enter all of your personal information over and over.

Still not sure if I will sign up with them, but I just renewed my
current policy with WesternQBE yesterday.. and I think they have a "will
beat any other premium" policy.. so I might get on the phone tomorrow
and hit them up for a refund of part of my premium.

pds is on their website

a couple of interesting points

we will NOT pay for
6. replacement or repair of any part fitted to the insured motorcycle,
following theft, burglary or fire unless

the insured motorcycle as a whole is stolen or destroyed by fire.

We do not cover any loss, damage or liability incurred whilst the insured
motorcycle is being:

6. ridden by any person, who:

6.1. is not listed as a permitted rider on the motorcycle policy schedule.

We do not cover any loss, damage or liability:

13. for any event which occurs outside Australia.

We do not cover any loss, damage or liability incurred whilst the insured
motorcycle is being:

4. used on any track, raceway or other area, assigned permanently or
otherwise as a track or raceway,

unless for the exclusive purpose of rider training and whilst under the
direct supervision of an

accredited, licensed riding instructor.

so superbikes school is covered , by the wording then race school would also
be covered since it is rider training

Legal Costs

If we accept a valid claim under Section 1 or 2 of this policy, and you are
charged with dangerous or

reckless driving leading to the death of a person other than a passenger of
the insured motorcycle, we will

pay for the legal costs of your defence. The most we will pay under this
extension is $1,000 for any one

claim and a total of $2,000 for all claims during the period of cover.

I wonder how much of a lawyer you get for $1K

Uninsured Third Party

If the insured motorcycle is involved in a no-fault accident with an
uninsured third party, we will cover

damage to the insured motorcycle only, up to a maximum of $3,000 for any one
claim, provided that you

supply us with the third party's full names and contact details and the
registration number of the third

party's vehicle.

good for 3rd party on a shitbox

E4 Garaging Excess

If you do not keep the insured motorcycle in a locked private garage between
10 PM and 6 AM, whilst the

insured motorcycle is parked at or in the proximity of your private
dwelling, there will be an additional

excess of $625 for each claim under Section 1 for loss or damage to the
insured motorcycle as a result of

theft; attempted theft; or malicious damage, irrespective of the time of
loss. This additional excess will be

added to the basic excess referred to in E1, as well as any other excesses
which may apply.

E5 Anti Theft Device

There is no cover under Section 1 of the policy, for theft or attempted
theft of the insured motorcycle,

unless an approved anti-theft device, was fitted to the motorcycle by an
approved manufacturer or installer,

and it is fully operational at all times whilst the insured motorcycle is
left unattended. We will decide which

anti-theft devices are approved.

sounds like you must have an alarm , but where is the approved list ?

E6 Partial Suspension of Cover

There is no cover under Section 1 for the insured motorcycle, unless it is
stolen from a locked private

garage and not recovered, or entirely destroyed by fire whilst parked in a
locked private garage. Cover

under Section 1 is also limited to $10,000.

WTF does that mean ?

Sounds like there is no cover if the bike is stolen from a carpark,
place of work, or any other place other than in a locked private garage.

Private garage between "10pm and 6am"

I'd be confirming what "private garage" means.

eg. is a communal apartment garage, with restricted access (key/magic
button) to residents only, considered a private garage?

I emailed them yesterday about this clause because it isn't very clear.
This was the reply.

"With regard to the garage endorsement, if your bike in not within the
vicinity of your home than this garage endorsement would not apply."
