Cooper advertised today in our twoBit paper, that they are introducing
Nitrogen Tire infation, in their service dept. Anybody ever heard of
airing up tires with Nitrogen?
The Cooper adv, stated -Why is nitrogen better than compressed air??
-maintains tire pressure better
-keeps tires 20% cooler
-better gas milage
-prolongs the life of tires
-improves handling and performane

(Who else thinks this is a crock? Bjay!!

It's been my understanding over the years that this is the
practice for race car tires. The story says that the heat
buildup is minimized, thus minimizing the pressure gain,
and maintaining more static handling.

In racing, I would think that better MPG, and increased
life, are certainly secondary issues. <g>

Bjay,
My BMW Dealer has long since used compressed Nitrogen to fill the tires
on my cars. About a month ago I 'snuck' my 88 Goldwing and my '03 Vulcan in
there to get the tires emptied and re-inflated with Nitrogen. (Okay, so
'sneaking' my Vulcan anywhere is not possible...It's aggressive sound and
it's appearance draw a lot of good attention.)
The difference may just be mental, but I'd swear the Nitrogen made a
positive difference in my ride from Lake Charles LA to Houston.
If it make you feel any better, this discussion has raged in the BMW
'World' for ages.

See you on the road!

P.S. Does anyone have a Vulcan Classic they wanna sell for a decent price?
If so, email me at d e v e n @ k n i g h t d a t a . c o m Thanks! -DK

Not sure about keeping the tires cooler but it will prolong the life of the
rubber. .Considering my back tire is worn out at about 10,000 miles which
takes about four to six months I don't worry about the rubber drying out and
cracking. Improving handling and performance would be a good thing if it
really does.

‘‘Deven in LA, I 'preciate it. I honestly had never heard of
using compressed nitrogen instead of plain de 'ole air, in vehicle
tires, I had heard of the Race Car guys using it. It did make me feel
better, that motorbike folks had discussed this topic, B4, somewhere,
heh heh heh!’’ BJAY

I've known it to be a practice, but honestly I've never given it much
consideration. The lack of service stations with nitrogen pumps probably
just made me ignore the whole issue.
Sortof like the propane alternative fuel. Less mph but cleaner exhaust, but
the lack of reliable refueling stations was enough to make me stay away.

‘‘Elmer, the part above that I thought was so stupid and so
impractical, was saying Nitrogen in tires, would help out on MPG,
sheeeese.’’ (bjay)
