Coming back from Wollombi, took the Old Road home (silly me, being a weekend) witnessed the usual idiot L platers riders doing
idiot things on their idiot bright yellow Spadas etc.

1) (followed this sorry bunch, shaking my head the whole way)

Southbound top of mountain descending to mooney. Narrow twisty section, following cars, L-platers all bunched up behind the 4 cars.
No way of passing for some time so why tailgate?

Idiot One also insisted on doing the "warm up the tyres" routine by zigzagging within his/her lane.

Even did this whilst going around blind corners, with sub-racetrack standard surface, and traffic approaching the other way .... and
trailing the front brake. May never get your P's that way. Hard to ride when you are dead.

Idiot Two, decided tailgating the cars on the narrow twisty section was not wise so PROCEEDED TO OVERTAKE APPROACHING A LEFT HAND
BLIND CORNER. Bad luck for any bike rider coming the other way, I like that corner.

(it's a nice corner, northbound very top of the hill from Mooney, sharp right hander)

And gee, guess what, the OTHER IDIOTS decided this was the right way to do things and followed. Cars beeped horns, the message
reinforced that all bike riders are idiots.... Thanks guys...

So what happens to road sense when you get a bunch of L-P platers together?

2) Patrol Car doing EPA ADR exhaust checks.

Berowra old toll gates, southbound, highway patrol pulled over, scouting bike/s to check exhaust compliance. I idled past in a
group of other bikes and cars. Patrol car follows and pulled over near the station.

"I heard you go past and you were the loudest" . Yes, the other bikes were all 250's...

" Is this a Triumph pipe?"

"Yes, it's on a Triumph bike"

" I dont see any plate"

"Gee, but it's a genuine Triumph pipe"

"Well it's aftermarket, there's no plate so it's illegal".

"It's a genuine Triumph pipe".

" The bike could be unroadworthy".

"I;ve never been defected before, obviously the bike is in pristine condition, pink slips are never a problem, blue slipped when I
bought it."

"Yes, tyres have plenty of tread.."

" So I can be roadworthy for registration renewal but still be illegal and defected?"

"Yes."

"It's called ADR 39. That's A-D-R 39".

"OK, thanks"

" I should give you a $200 ticket and 7 days to replace the pipe. We trailered a bike here today that didnt change the pipe and he's
got a $2400 fine."

"OK, I'll check the pipe is from Triumph."

Meanwhile, it's school holidays and the road's are full of idiots.

etc etc etc.

(silence descends as Bigiain winds up for the counterstrike)

"Mhm... doesn't a small part of you hate it that there's never an actual
incident on which to base these part-threat part-cautionary-tale stories you
always feel you have to accompany a roadside stop/ticket with, so you have
to make **** up and come off looking even less deserving of respect in the
eyes of the public than you already are..."

Gimme a few more months in Canberra, and I'm gonna start echoing Biggus in
my sentiments of good old overpriced, smog-choked Sydney...

No, didnt get the opportunity. But watched more idiot antics that made me wonder the standard of training for defensive roadsense.

Leaving Mooney bridge (south end), L plater then proceeds to casually overtake car (double lines of course) with the Brooklyn
intersection approaching. Traffic banked up trying to cross intersection.

No. But I didnt ask for one either. Officer was very nice, mentioned there's a blitz on bikes, asked if I'd been up to Mt White etc
etc.

" Defect your bike $200 and you have 7 days to replace the pipe. If you're caught again with this pipe then it's a $2400 fine and
your bike is confiscated."

Sorry, didn't mean to imply that all yellow Spada riders are idiots. Some idiots aren;t fussy about the colour :-)

Are you saying that because Alx is my size, or because you remember
Christine's a black belt with permanent fresh sparring-derived barely-healed
lesions on all eight knuckles, or both?
