Resembles a NSU OSL 501
http://www.motorradwallpaper.de/Gale...Bj_1937_1_.jpg

The engine looks different though. It might be a Horex Imperator twin
in an NSU chassis, but I'm guessing.

It has the double fork of an NSU, but it different.

I could be anything.. Lithuania was german until 1918, then
independent.
the photo is probably from before the russians occupied Lithuanian
territory
in 1940...

hence...

it could be a polish, german, or russian motorbike.

That's called a "girder" fork. They were very common.

Also, Motosacoche was a Swiss company that licensed motorcycles
resembling NSU's that were sold all over Europe and Britain.

cool! I googled, and yes...looks similar!

BUT NO CIGAR!! I have been looking at IZH Dnjepr and others, nothing
even close.
Lots of british bikes with girder fork (Parallelogramm-Gabel in
german !!?)

After a big search I think it might be a TORNAX

There are more candidates ... What do you think?

Is that a polar bear painted on the door of the truck behind the bike?
Maybe that might identify the army involved?

"The bear is an ancient symbol of Samogitia, one of the regions of
Lithuania, and appears in the coat of arms of Siauliai district as
well."

Looks like you're right.

Very likely, but it can not be a polar bear. It's probably the white bull of
Kaunas:

Kaunas was at that time the temporary capital of Lithuania (Vilnius being
occupied by the Poles).

<OFFTOPIC>
Ahhh a Blockwart is here!!

Yes, good german behaviour. One should not make unnecessary work for
the BND/NSA. All unruly people are suspicious. When push comes to
shove
they may be classified as Untermenschen!

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Actually, I happen to think that anonymity is essential in this world,
and I find it more honest to use a generic name, rather than fake
an identity. I respect anyone's wish to be (semi-) anonymous.
Please have the grace to do the same, much obliged.

</OFFTOPIC>

YES, I thought it might be a SINGLE CYLINDER too.

I still think it is a TORNAX

WIKIPEDIA: Tornax was a motorcycle manufacturer in Wuppertal, Germany.
Tornax built its first motorcycle in 1926. This was the model I-26,
which has a 600 cc single-cylinder side-valve engine imported from JAP
in London, England producing 15 bhp. For the remainder of the 1920s
all Tornax models featured side-valve and overhead valve (OHV) JAP
engines of 500, 550 and 600 cc

If you look at the engine, it is very similar to a variant of the JAP
motor.
So it could be a british bike, too.

WHICH MOTORBIKE?
http://www-2.net/y23.stock.pictures/...21_134646.html

ONE OF THESE?
