Osoyoos 2010 - A ride report

This gig has been our first weekend ride of the season for several
years now. Given our long winters it is not surprising most of us look
forward to it as much as we do. Unfortunately our typical early spring
weather often makes riding through The Rockies a risky proposition.
This year was no exception.

The weather forecast was, well for the lack of a more technical term,
crap. Cold, rain, flurries, basically crap.

Warren and I were scheduled to ride out together. We chatted early
Friday morning and after looking at the forecast and a bunch of
highway webcams, I told Warren I was out. The risk of riding snow
covered or icy roads was not worth the reward. After the call, I
looked at my packed bags and figured I'd at least load the bike. With
the bike loaded I thought what the hell, I'd give it a try. I geared
up and went to get the bike out of the shed. When I pushed the starter
all I heard was click. Yeah we have all heard that sound.

Anyway, now I was ****ed. I called Warren and told him if he didn't
mind a late start, I'd buy a new battery and could be ready to ride by
11:00 or 12:00. Warren's always game to ride so we had a plan.

For a weekend with such a lousy weather forecast, we lucked out big
time. Aside from the one bout of hail the weather was not too bad.
Most of the time it was dry and relatively warm. It wasn't til we got
back on the Alberta side of the Rockies it got cold again.

All in all, an outstanding weekend ride.

Good report, and inviting pictures.

We're heading to the Arkansas Grand Canyon, and Buffalo River National Park
this morning for a couple of days of lookseeing. We're expecting temps
around 105 degrees waiting for us when we returned home this weekend. I may
print out your pictures to glance at between the sweat beads.

...louie

I'll be in New Mexico in a few weeks and I was thinking I'd want to
enjoy a little of that cold air when I am in that popcorn popper heat.
Maybe I'll print a picture or two.

You always have such great write-ups and photos, Don. Even your 'out-
of-focus' pics are great. ;-)
I appreciate you sharing some cool weather riding, with us.

Ride safe,
Sunny

Thanks Sunny

Next Saturday we leave for Yellowstone/Moab and then Chama. The temp
in Moab was 104 yesterday.

I think we will be longing for some cool weather riding after Moab.
