My style (of which you will find many examples in this nudesgrope)
is to put the full-stop after a parenthetical phrase which is part of a
sentence, but include the period within the brackets for a full, but
parenthesised, sentence. (If you see what I mean.)

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Dr Ivan D. Reid"

IIRC Michael Green's definition of a coarse sailor was one who in an
emergency shouts "for God's sake turn left!".
