I'm on the new number until 25th March when I get my old number back.

Shop staff were extremely helpful.

No need to do that. Just press the volume up or down button on the
right hand side of the phone while you're looking at the main screen
(that shown the wallpaper/ network name/etc). The handset phone number
appears in the list of info.
