Paging the fuel pump gurus

Mate of mine has a yonks old Yamaha Genesis. The fuel pump stopped working
and he assumed it had something to do with the relay.

Yesterday I took the pump apart and the contacts were a bit shite, so I
cleaned them up, adjusted the spring a bit, sprayed the whole lot with
switch cleaner and tested it. The solenoid activates, pushing the contacts
apart, but the solenoid stays activated. I can clearly see the gap between
the contacts. I don't know how many bikes have this type of non-return pump,
maybe someone here knows if there is a pump available these days to replace
it? I'm assuming that either the insulation around the contacts is no longer
insulating, or something is wrong inside the pump body, leaving the solenoid
permanently connected.

What say those that know?

That was the whole point, hence:

Yup, figured that.

No, the solenoid is pushing hard.

Yebbut that's only about three Euro at today's rate.

Happy to forward it on if you want to get it sent to me.

All my hoard is in pounds sterling. I'm a little unhappy.

Guessing a bit here, but I've come across some electromagnetic brakes in my
line of work that effectively have a bit of an over centre operation. Once
operated they don't like to spring back. It may just be a case of fine
tuning the spring slightly.

Thanks. I bought it with GBP8 delivery to Spain. I think it was GBP5 to
Blighty, so not too bad.

I made an offer of GBP30, which was automatically rejected. So how does this
offer thing work then, if offers are automatically rejected? If it had been
for me, I might have made more of an effort to knock him down, but my mate
just said to get him a pump.

If there's a best offer, you know they'll take a lower price, so worth a
try. If they have it set up automatically, you get three chances to
guess what they've set the number at, after that you can't make any more
offers.
