Over the years I been impressed with the level of medical discussion
on this ng. About three months ago my right shoulder started to give
me jipp. Can't remember anything in particular happening. It is now
pretty damn painful, wake up having rolled on and whole area is
screaming.. lean to do something with right arm and arrghhh... docs
now have me on 3 x 400 mg Ibuprfoen and 4 2x 30 / 500 Co-codamol
Paracetamol... not too sure if they are helping as the pain levels are
still pretty much the same....had X-ray of shoulder last week, not got
result yet... next thing doc is suggesting is steroids...

I'm wondering if there are any specialists I should be seeing before
GP starts with steroids.

Thanks for your time

Hj

If you're needing thst many painkillers you're overdue for a referral to a
physiotherapist. They can be very good on shoulder pain. Worth splashing
out some of you own money if you're in a hurry although you should be able
to get NHS treatment.

That sounds like quite a lot.

He's suggesting steroids without seeing the x-ray results or making a
diagnosis? Not called Doctor House is he?

Sounds like /any/ specialist would be a good plan, even if it's a vet
or optician.

Do you use a computer mouse a lot? Could it be RSI? I had this and cured
it in less than a week by changing to a Logitech Trackman.

?While we're doing this
I have pains in my elbow for the past 3 weeks (thought it was the GS, but
apparently not)
www.patient.co.uk [1] says its tennis elbow with no cure
The effect is I'm losing mobility in my fingers when writing and I've almost
now got to lift my forearm with my other hand.
a throbbing almost burning pain runs along the forearm and accross the top
of the hand sometimes.
its better when its been moving all day, but sit still for an hour and its
agony.
what say the FOAK? cut it off?
[1] my crap doctor refers me to this and google all the bloody time

I had something like this. My right upper arm was aching and stiff and
the suddenly it turned into failure to raise right arm above shoulder
height without almost passing out. Which meant I couldn't get dressed or
brush my hair let alone drive or use the PC.
My doctor diagnosed a frozen shoulder and gave me a physio regime and
codeine for a week. It's much better now but could recur at any time.
Look up adhesive capsulitis.

Rest it completely until it goes away. Could take weeks, but it's the
only cure aiui.

Just over a year ago I had something similar. It was (even more of) a
real struggle to get in to my racing leathers or put on a coat, and if I
stretched out my left arm to pick something up it was very painful.
Couldn't get to sleep if lying on that side. Physio after doses of a
strong NSAID (can't remember which) sorted it.

Previous injuries? I had rotator cuff surgery in spring of 2009 to
remove a bone spur that caused exactly what you're describing. The
spur basically was sawing thru the rotator cuff, the result being I
couldn't lift my arm hardly at all. My right shoulder is showing signs
of the same thing now.

MRI shows soft tissue, not x-rays. I'd be talking about a specialist
visit and proper diagnosis before starting a heavy dosage routine like
that.

I had something like that and it turned out to be caused by a bone chip
floating around in the elbow.
