the fuel tank on my bike is painted metallic white. It's nw got a few
small yellowish-brown stains around the filler opening from petrol
spillage.

Is there a nifty way of removing said stains? I am loathe to use
cutting polish for obvious reasons.

Brains trust?

Try a heat gun, oxy or grinder.

The stains won't come out. Monica and Bill know that.

If you rub it then it just makes more stains.

The petrol has probably eaten the clearcoat.

First off try and find a cutting polish that specifically says it is
for clearcoat and use that.

If you can't find a clearcoat cutter than a good quality cutting
polish might do it.

I think there are wax polishes now with some colour in them so after
using the cutting polish try a good coloured wax polish.

If the stains have been there a while then your chances of removing
them are minimal alas as the petrol will have eaten the clear coat and
the colour is dirt on the paint.

There appear to be no signs of the clearcoat having been eaten.

Genty gave it a bit of a rub with Kitten No2 and that removed the
stains.

I take it a 'clearcoat cutter' is what I need to get. Available at
bikeshops, Supercheapauto, Scotts Auto 1, etc?

Coloured polish? What'll they think of next?
