Phillip Island MotoGP question

Hey all,

My friend and I are riding down for the Moto GP and I was wondering how much
of a hassle would it be to stay in Melbourne (City) for the Saturday night
and get to the Island in time before the big race?

What are the roads like, how often do the ferries run and all that sort of
thing. Pricing on the ferries is also a question. Some insightful knowledge
would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Walt

PI - Ferries??

If you want to go that way - go for it.
I usually take the road through Cranbourne & San Remo

The roads are flat and boring if you go the obvious way, twisty
and magnifcent if you go the stupid way. The ferry is disappointing,
because it goes the wrong way entirely.

(unless you're coming from Tasmania, I guess ...)

You can easily make the track from the CBD in 2 hrs. Probably much less
because it's freeway/highway almost the entire length now.

There's just one stationary ferry which runs continually called "The Bridge"

Important note for all people attending the Grand Prix who are from interstate
or don't regularly travel to the South Eastern Suburbs. The Hallam Bypass has
been completed which means that now where previously you had to look out for 1
Phillip Island turnoff, you must now take 2 turnoffs. After passing Stud Rd
and Heatherton Rd stick in the left lanes and follow the signs to the South
Gippsland Freeway, which will keep you going down the old freeway and then
take the South Gippy Highway exit as before.

Does not take all that long from Melb.City CBD to P/Isd. depends on the traffic
though,perhaps <2Hrs.

First year i went i slept on somebodys nature-strip (with permission of
course),that was a real hoot and saw Garner stick it right up doohan, also saw
for the last time a 500cc called Cagiva.....

Roads are good and basic country hwy style once you leave Dandenong

Ferry, what ****en ferry?? You want to go to Port Lonsdale or something?U are on
the wrong side of P/P/Bay.

Get a map out and study it pronto,it is a no-brainer from Melb. to P/Isd

'93 was the podium; Doug Chandler (lead half the race then tailed off).
'94 was the win from Little-John.
