The Toggster insisted that I rebuild the carbs, I got disgusted and
put it away for six months.
The TK carbs are the most over-engineered, counter intuitive,
intentionally complex pieces I have ever seen.
But I got the bike running today after rebuilding them twice and
switching fuel tanks.
The laws of fluid dynamics are universal but the Japanese engineers
take a unique approach. They add a little spring loaded reed valve to
the choke plates. Three of the four reed valves had broken off and
had been swallowed by the power head... tsk. I removed the
remaining reed and then plugged up the gaping orifices with JB Weld, a
two-part epoxy, I made a dam out of tape and filled in the voids and
then finished with a little sand papering.
It runs and it sounds pretty darn good! Thanks for the kind advice
and encouragement.
