I have given up thinking about things like that, my Nige-foo isn't up
to a suitable response

They should be the same stanchions but the legs are different if i remember, i think the mudguard mountings are the same as is the brake hose clip mounting, but the calliper mount's are not the same .
You will have to put them back to back for a proper comparison but you may need front brake calliper and maybe also the disc from the RD400 to complete the swop .
