Absolutely, I don't have need for a replacement system ATM but if I
did I know now who'd be first on the list of potentials.

I had a pair on my 750 Bonneville, they didn't seem to silence
anything. I borrowed them from a friend who'd stored them, unknown to
me, packed with grease. This led to the predicable comedy smoke screen
on the A3 as the grease heated up and caught fire.

I remember the Name 'Jock Kerr' but not the man. I had a Piper 3-1 on
my GT750 when I was 18, it sounded ****ing awful and made the bike
drink fuel whie at the same time strangling what little performance
there was.

I fitted a pair of reverse cone mega on my XS for a few months and
they were seriously loud plus it actually went well with them on. The
only real problem was the fact that I kept wearing holes in them where
the alloy end cap met the nasty cheap main silencer. Patching them
with material borrowed from work was never a good idea because all
that happened was I wore through the pop rivets and the patches fell
off.

Happy days etc.

He used to offer "exchange rebuilt engines" for Hondas. And big-bore
kits.

I see you can still get Megaton "silencers". Wonder if they still have a
slot mounting so that you can fit them on almost anything. Not content
with fitting a Matchless OEM 'Mega' on the Matchless 250 G2, I also
bashed out the blanking plate on the end of the pipe (AMC often used
this system of a blanked pipe with holes protruding some distance in to
the silencer). This was, I hasten to say, before I became a Member of
the Institute of Acoustics.

Anyone remember the lovely Burgess silencers with the arrow logo ?

It now just has a pair of Conti replicas. Which are, for all intents and
purposes, straight through megas.

Yesterday I replaced plug caps and HT leads (it got so wet the other day
it required WD40 to start) and balanced the carbs (which weren't too far
out - to the extent I would have left them if I were in a hurry).

It now seems to run a lot better and pull from sub 3K revs easier - still
not perfect.

However, pots 2 and 3 don't properly chime in until its fully warmed up.
This was an intermittent fault I put down to dodgy leads but I suspect it
may need another coil. I'll temporarily rob one from the turbo to prove
the point.

Odd though, IME coils die when they get hot not the other way around.

I had that on a K, I put it down to there being small cracks in the
coils which were letting in moisture- when warm the moisture was gone.
