I just watched a news story about a 26" saw blade lost from a moving vehicle
over in Dallas. That blade traveled across the lanes and a car hit it. The
car was damaged but no humans were hurt.

Road debris ****es me off, and it can cause me or you to die. There is a
hotline for TxDot. Put that *377 in your cell and call if you see me drunk
or losing my mattress from my chevy.

----------------------------------------------------------- from TxDot
site-------------------------------

Examples of when a motorist may call the Hotline include:

a.. stranded with car problems
b.. hazardous road conditions
c.. debris in the roadway
d.. suspicious activity at a rest area
e.. obviously intoxicated or dangerous drivers
If the situation is an emergency, motorists should call 9-1-1.

To better assist personnel who answer the Hotline, motorists should have the
following information readily available when calling:

a.. Name
b.. Cell phone number
c.. Vehicle description when applicable
d.. Highway location (mile marker is helpful)
e.. County location or city location if inside the city limits
Customers of wireless companies, ALLTEL, Nextel, AT&T/Cingular, Verizon,
Sprint, US Cellular, and T-Mobile, can also dial *DPS (*377) anywhere in
Texas to report non-emergency situations

I've always stopped to help...weird huh? I even stop for Harley's,
Goldwings, sport bikes etc.

Define hazardous? ;^)

I've been known to stop and clear such thing to the breakdown lane at
a minimum and preferablly totally off the road. For stuff too big I
either find a pay phone and or flag. I admit to not always doing it.

Gee, I gotta pee. Activity moves on...guess they think I'm a cop,
trouble or a Jehova's witness come to preach.

I've stopped and calle those in.

Yep the hard part is finding pay phones. I don't have or really need a
leash. That's all a cell phone is as far I am concerned. This ol'
dirty dawg ain't willingly worn a leash and ain't likely to ever do
so.

Use this when it is your vehicles that is stranded. Pickup area trash
while waiting.

When a part/portion of the roadway is covered in thick owl **** to such
a degree that both wheels on a Suzuki would be in contact with the
t.o.s. is 1 example. 80 feral hogs another.

In parts of Texas that have a practice where they build big hiways. On
those hiways there may be multiple adjacent lanes where traffic is going
in the same direction. Stopping would create a (b.) above

Freedom rings at these nice rest area the state builds. Freedom
sometimes attracts a lot of undesirables. I suggest you not stop at one
of these areas, your soft ways may be misinterputed.

They have cell phones that will not answer unless a sequence of buttons
are pressed. And you have to pay for them.

I clipped a turtle one time and it went flying like a Frisbee. I hit an
armadillo at night parallel to its head with both wheels and the Valkyrie
went airborne but recovered with no problem other than fear that came on the
driver that had to be shaken off . I did not have the number you gave us to
call those problems in though. It is now in my cell phone.

Knock on wood I've only been dead on the roadside ONCE...that was a
R / Front tire on my rat truck. Serves me right, damn sidewalls looked
like a dry lake be. passenger had a phone and tow was there quicker
than guick.

That's not a hazard it's an opportunity to practice handling on slick
surfaces and is easier to clean off the motorcycle than diesel BTDT.

> is 1 example. 80 feral hogs another.

Those are moving chicanes another opportunity to improve riding skill.
I have the potential of dealing with BIG critters than that...say a
herd of elk ( 12-20 it was dark) I also have had to deal with herds of
cattle in a blind curve. Hazard? Yeah I suppose but I just consider it
an opportunity.

What clearing it would cause a problem? Cleared stuff on I-35 before
(in Dallas) only places I'd likely not stop is I40 in OKC, MOPAC
(freaking IDIOTS)

Yeah they keep leaving and to be honest I really was just stopping to
take a leak. Only happened a time or two but that's what happened.

CORRECTION!

I did hit an armadillo with a 74' Impala wagon. I didn't include as it
doesn't count as a motorcycle. Hit that poor thing dead center adn it
was tall enough to hit the front cross-member and bounce around
underneath like a basketball. That boys and girls was a darn big
'dilla.

That battleships only damage was it's dignity...dead stinky armadillo
meat all over the underside. It was big enough I used to have ex-navy
helicopter pilots trying land on it thinking it was the USS
Ticonderoga. 8^)

> Except maybe a drunk east Texan. Hard to kill one in a car.

Uh what damage. Not that anything like that ever happened...honest!
See it was made of genuine Armor plate (originally intended for an
Iowa class battleship) I almost miss it. IF it had been a motorcycle
instead of a cage I'd never have sold it. If you see what I mean.
