Watching the video of the Ligurische-Grenzkammstrasse trail ride, I
got curious about the area. The north-western end is at the Col de
Tende:

or:

If you zoom in, you can see the E74 goes through a tunnel, but there
is an old road that goes over the mountain. Looks more interesting
than the tunnel.

There's heaps of good stuff from Cuneo Or Barcelonette - don't miss the Col
d'Agnelle and the Col de Bonette.

Those who were on the TOGtour to God's Saucepan Town will remember the
fabulous D999 between Virey and Villedieu. Not scary and challenging, just
a lovely, flowing, twisty ride through the hills.

a good website for descriptions
http://alpineroads.com/maritimes.php#izoard

I visited that area a while back. Izoard was my favourite because of the
Mars-like terrain cut into the red rock.

I missed Agnelle as we went over Vars to get from Bonette back to Briancon
and then Grenoble.

IIRC that was 1994 so I ought to go back for another visit and explore some
of the roads we missed.

Yeah, I found that when looking up Jeremy's suggestions, along with
bestbikingroads.com.
And I've got John Hermann's book, MC Journeys Through the Alps, but an
early edition, which doesn't cover the Maritime Alps much at all. I
know he added Corsica later. He's local to me and I'm pumping him for
good road info.

One of the joys of sport-touring is finding those little roads that
don't show up on most maps. Googlemaps satview is cool for scrolling
around, looking for squiggly lines.

Somehow, I didn't think I'd be the first. Can I assume you had fun?
Fast Bikes doesn't look like they do a good job of archiving or
sorting stuff on their website. Oh well.

In the Catalan Pyrénées, the D618/D63 from Bouleternère to Amélie les
Bains, with a famous "Virages dangereux sur 43 kilomètres" at the
beginning.
