When the plunger thingy lifts under vacuum, how far should it lift?
Mine only seems to move very slightly regardless of what flow rate I
have set. I ask this because I am having trouble getting the thing to
flow properly. I have got decent vaccum and taken the whole thing Part
and cleaned it.

Scottoiler do a reconditioning service for about £15. Used it a few
times over the years and would recommend it. To answer your post mine
also only moves a tiny bit....can you force the fluid through with a
syringe or suck it through at the other end?

If you've got it set low it lifts just a little bit, and if you've got
it set high it lifts a lot more

I'm still trying to adjust mine, so it doesn't **** fluid all over the
back tyre and so it does actually oil the chain. :-/

I assume that the speed at which one rides, affects the speed of drip,
no?

No, it's gravity fed and the valve will be either closed or open. Once
there is "enough" vacum in the tube to the Scotoiler to open the valve
that's it. Only the adjuster on the top will effect the speed of the
drip - oh and I suppose the heat of the oil to make it thinner and
cause it to drip a bit quicker.

cheers

I just bought a TUTORO gravity fed oiler. This is completely manual but
much cheaper cf Scottoilers and the like. A lot like the LOOBMAN but not as
cack looking.

I've spent ages ****ing around with the thing and I just can't seeem
to get anything to come through, the pipes are clear and there is a
constant fall to the spout, I am wondering if my idea of a bit when it
comes to lifting is the same as others. Even if I adjust it to 'max'
it hardly seems to move at all, certainly no different to when it's on
'min'.
I think it's probably knackered. I'll have a look and see if I can get
it refurbed as Mark suggests.

Where are you taking the vacuum from?

Nope, it's positioned correctly. I was quite happy with the installation
and it's solid and stable. I spent quite some time in trying to get it
to the required "two drops per minute" but it seems to be hurling too
much oil.
