Wall of death? Or just a narrow squeak?

They haven't re-surfaced that stretch of road recently, have they?

Have you tried leaving the pillion at home?

You (nearly) owe me a keyboard.

No point. She's been struck dumb by terror anyway.

Nope. I think the reason why it happens there is because I've done enough
miles by then for everything to have reached nominal running temperature, and
it's the first stretch of road on the journey where one can reach and sustain
a fairly high speed. If, as I suspect, it's a problem with the speedo drive
then that might be the place where it's most likely to give trouble, if you
follow my peculiar logic.

Thanks I'll look into that possibility.

The bike is overdue a service and its MOT has just expired, so I might get my
friendly mechanic to give it a good look over before getting it tested. I
know I could probably see to this myself but I'm getting lazy in my advancing
age.

Well, yes, but it's rather out of my way. Alternatively a trip down to
Eastbourne would produce similar conditions.

The chain is getting on a bit, to be honest, but I keep it lubed and it has
had a fairly easy life. I haven't adjusted it for a while, though.

The noise does sound as if it's coming from the front, but I can't be 100% sure.

Especially as you'll have some sort of fairing to duct it.

Sir must be thinking of a Trident Sprint. Mine is the plain, nekked Trident.
