Any recommendations as to what to use?

ISTR BMW say 20/50, but the only 10/50 I could find was Halfords Classic
Mineral oil.

Any harm in using 10/40 semi-synth? - and does it matter if it's car
oil, rather than bike oil, in a boxer? (I have copious amounts of 10/40
semi-synth car oil)

I wanted it today / tomorrow - not next week.

Sling it in! I had 10/40 in the Beemer for the winter rally IIRC and the
viscocity is right for the warmed up engine.

I've always found basic car 20/50 in motor factors and it's what I use. I
don't think old Beemers mind, they just like it fresh and regularly changed.

Good stuff.

Next time, I'll buy the Halfords Classic Mineral Oil, as it comes in a
posh metal can ;-)

10/40 semi-synth will be fine but there's no real need to be that posh.
Supermarket 20/50 would do fine also.

As I understand it, the only reason that bike oils are different to car
oils is that they have to cope with engine, clutch and gearbox all in
one. Unless it's gone horribly wrong, the oil in your SO Boxer shouldn't
have to do that.

Almost tempted to keep the 10/40 for the cars and buy some cheap 20/50.

Check your local lidl - if they have their own brand in. Meets all the
required specs and works fine in airheads, Ks and Accords.

That's a very pretty can to leave on display in the garage once you've
used the oil.

WTF is going on with the oil filters on a SO boxer? - never seen
anything like it before.
