Hi

A friend of mine just bought himself a Yamaha Vmax, 1997.

But he keeps telling me that his is the "High Output" version, and
that it has about 150hp.
Is this true?
Is there something like this?

Thanks

Bob

I know of a way to settle this quickly.

Tell your friend to put the bike on a dyno, in your presence. If it
has 150 corrected HP, or greater.......at the wheel, you pay for the
dyno pull. If it doesn't, he pays for the pull.

Don't worry about having to pay.

He bought the bike from some guy. It has only 8000 miles on it, not bad for a 1997.
The bike doesn't look like it would have any after market parts.
Besides, I live in Chile and there are only 10 maybe 20 Vmax in the whole country.
I need to know if it's bull$hit or if it is, or could be, true.
I understand that if his is a stock bike it can't possibly have 148 hp, right?
Where there any special factory editions arround that year?

thanks people!

It's bullshit. There has never been any factory VMax.
Stock VMax was a 110-115HP at best bike.Ventures, which used the same basic
motor were about 95HP, and Royal Stars, a major varation were only about
70HP. Takes pistons, cams, pipes and some serious work to get to the 150HP
mark. Or does it have a nitrous bottle?
Perhaps the seller and your buddy were doing nitrous when this HO crap came
up.

Right.

There has never been a factory special high output edition of the VMax that I've
read or heard about in the U.S. or British motorcycling press.

Maybe it's a Chile-only edition. Perhaps Yamaha specializes in special edition
High Output Chile-only editions in model runs of one to three bikes?

You're right.
I'll e-mail the link to this Newsgroup....
He'll get sad.
But that's his problem.
It's a tremendous bike. I passion are cars, not motorcycles. I do know
how to drive them. He offered me to take it for a ride... But when I
saw it, got on it, started the engine...... I shut the engine down
and got of it.
Too much.

How fast is it 0-100kph (0-60mph)?

I've seen some webs where they say that there were Vmax with 140 or so HP...
Arround '86 and '87..

Could this differences be due to measuring it at the crank or the real wheel?
