My D220 rear tyre is pretty thoroughly shagged after the trip to Bright, Omeo
etc. on the weekend. I didn't have much tread remaining when I left home so
took it pretty easy on Saturday and was a bit more liberal with my use of the
throttle on the exit of corners on Sunday. I was quite surprised I got home
with as much rubber remaining as I did. Other tyres I've used in the past
have had much more accelerated wear rates in the latter stages of their
usefulness, especially on the alpine roads.

We (9 bikes) got stopped for RBT/licence/rego checks by a couple of highway
patrol guys based at Wangaratta just out of Whitfield on the
Whitfield-Mansfield Road at lunchtime on Saturday. They didn't seem to show
much interest in what speed we were doing. I came around a bend onto a
straight and saw the cop standing in the middle of the road signalling me to
stop about 400 metres ahead. He obviously heard me coming... he had roof
mounted radar on his car and could well have parked it in a position where he
might have checked my speed at the same time, but it didn't seem to be on his
agenda the day... fortunately. He didn't even mind too much when he pointed
out that my front tyre was in the latter stages of it's life... "you think
that one's bad? mate you should see the rear tyre! I'm getting a new set
on Monday"
