Turning on Police Lights

Stumbling across the web, I came across this message on a bboard.
Anyone know if it's true (or want to give it a go)?

"Here in Australia, the police cars have an external switch to
activate the red & blue lights, usually subtly sticking out of the
radiator. This is to allow the rozzers to turn on the lights while
they are standing outside the car during random breath testing or
speed traps. Not sure how I found out, but I discovered that this
switch activates the lights, even if the car is locked up, with no
keys in the ignition. "

Yes this switch exists. Particularly on the holden commodore sedans
and highway cars.

Thats it in a better description.

Also, don't go flicking this switch when a car is sitting around with
no cops, cause as first poster said. This will enable the lights etc..
and you will have a few cops jump you.

What could the cops bust you for if you did this? Surely touching a police
car isn't a criminal offence.

Yup, back when I was in school (12 years ago) they used to have a
pretty obvious pushbutton on the front of the bonnet.. we'd push it
on the cop cars parked in the school carpark when they were doing
their talks about whatever thing the kids should or shouldn't be
doing.. dunno about modern cop cars now tho.

You mean to say that theboys in blue are too slack to walk the extra 3
metres ot optn the door and turn the lights on from there!

Lay off the donuts and the Maccas boys.

There is a small toggle switch on the front grill but won't work unless
activated (with a switch) from inside of the vehicle. It's found on all
sedans and caged vehicles - not sure about the others. The systems 'de-arms'
itself when the vehicle is locked.

"Unauthorised use of police equipment" - the lights are police equipment and
turning them on constitutes usage.
