Tyre Changers

Anyone here had any experience with the "No Mar" tyre changers. I like the
concept and O/S forums seem to say nice things about em

The price of tyres here is a joke compared to those delivered here from the
US and you get the added conveyance of changing whenever you want i.e. 8pm
fri night at home. Also you can check out your wheel properly, no more
"Sorry mate ya cant come ere Health an Safety an all Eh" Plus you can change
the tyres WITHOUT scratching the rims.

I've been quoted over $700 for a rear tyre here for one of my no so common
bikes, with 10% club discount, and it seems I can get two pair (front and
rear matching set) delivered to my door from the US for $823.

The high turnover sizes still show a discount of over $100 per set but I got
to have them changed and that involves the other dramas of time and due
care.

Call me a dinosaur but where's the hassle in changing a tyre ?
A little patience and a bit of detergent and it just happens.

Yes yes I know it can be done, but just one small scratch in the paint on a
magnesium alloy rim, as opposed to a aluminium alloy rim, and slowly
corrosion set in. Six months later your wheel collapses as you ride over a
railway line.

I'm haunted with images of late 70's Darmahs with top shelf Campagnolo
wheels. I had the next generation Speedline ones fitted to mine, still
magnesium, still cracked in two places all along the centre between the
spokes. I'd read the horror stories and found the damage before catastrophe
struck

After several collapsed without warning the Importer was made to replace
them with FPS branded Aluminium Alloy wheels. Much heaver but a lot more
able to handle the abuse metered out by Tyre changers. Today almost all OEM
wheels are Al Alloy

Even changing when on Al rims the shops seem to easily mark them and if you
go Carbon Fibre any scratch looks bad

The No Mar changers claim to make changing tyres easy and with No Marks.
Looks a cinch in there Videos and many online Forums have threads supporting
there claims

I've a couple of mates, yes it's true, and we do a few track days, got a few
bikes between us and we don't want to sweat and struggle around the garage
floor with levers and lube. Hmm then again.

Then there's balancing, all possible with time and patience I know but I'm
looking for the path of least resistance. Cheaper tyres and easy carefree
fitting.

Call me a girl. I can handle it. Got a Sporster in the garage I'm used to
it.

We are doing it here without any problems.
Not using a Mars machine however - rather expensive alternative. I
have made all
my gear up out of scrap. Some of the major dealers in the US at least,
offer
fairly cheap devices, as I think you will find are available in Aus if
you do a
bit of googling.
To prevent rim damage, just buy 3 rim savers - cost about 6 bucks
each. Can
probably get away with 2 but the other might just come in handy at
times.
There can be lots of improvisation, after a couple, you will be an
expert.
Plenty of lubrication is the way to go, and google is your friend..

HEH! Dino's don't know about mags :-)
Have to agree on the balancing although once again it can be done for
those with time and inclination !!
Have to admit I can't be bothered any more either.
