WA Trip - November

I've put down some more definite ideas on this. The story is that I have
to be in Perth for a conference from 26 to 28 November. I've already
twisted the arms of a couple of workmates, and at present it looks like
there are four starters - Moike (R100RS, Melb), Don (R80, Adel), Brian
(various, Syd), plus me (the Nomad) as well. I've also lit a fire under
Ian, a mate in Perth (ZZR of some sort), suggesting he whack the bike on
the train to Adelaide and ride back with us!

The longest day is 785km from Adelaide to Ceduna, and the longest gap
between petrol (according to the latest Hema motorcycle atlas) is 205km
(between Esperance and Norseman, but I'll be checking that). I plan on
taking my trailer, with extra petrol, water and my gear. The minimum
standard of accommodation I am aiming at is on site vans. More likely
budget motels. In Perth, it'll be everyone for themselves.

As to the ride itself, we have been calling this the "dumbbell tour" -
up to Adelaide, across the Nullarbor, up round Calgoorlie, to Perth,
coming back round the bottom via Esperance, back across the Nullarbor
and down through the Barossa, the Coorong and the Great Ocean Road. Five
days over, and eight days back.

Date From To Distance
Thursday 20/11/2003 Geelong Adelaide 705
Friday 21/11/2003 Adelaide Ceduna 785
Saturday 22/11/2003 Ceduna Cocklebiddy 763
Sunday 23/11/2003 Cocklebiddy Coolgardie 597
Monday 24/11/2003 Coolgardie Perth 553
3403

Monday 1/12/2003 Perth Albany 564
Tuesday 2/12/2003 Albany Esperance 487
Wednesday 3/12/2003 Esperance Cocklebiddy 634
Thursday 4/12/2003 Cocklebiddy Ceduna 763
Friday 5/12/2003 Ceduna Clare 670
Saturday 6/12/2003 Clare Robe 457
Sunday 7/12/2003 Robe Port Campbell 408
Monday 8/12/2003 Port Campbell Geelong 208
4191

Overall 7594

The ride back has shorter days for a couple of reasons. First and
foremost, we'll be more knackered by then. Secondly, I've built in a few
things like rides - the Bear's Margaret River ride, and the GO Road. For
some reason the day we ride through the Clare and Barossa Valley wine
growing areas is also a short day … the following day even shorter.

Yeah, me too. There's the Tassie bike week, the lads flying their bikes
up to QLD and riding them back, and the WA trek.

Me, my next big trip will be a 90 min ride to PI for the AGP in Oct....
