According to this weeks MCN[1], the R1 is now a lardy sports tourer,
trounced by pretty much every other litrebike. It was "too soft" they
said.

And the S1000RR is (the current) king.

The S1000R is the only one of the current crop that looks particularly
interesting.

In order of appeal, it'd be...

S1000R
RSV4
ZX10R
<big gap>
GSXR1000
<big gap>
CBR1000RR
<enormous gap>
R1

Couldn't tell you why though.

The only new bike I'm vaguely interested in owning at the moment would
be a GSXR750, as I've never owned one and think they're great. Seems
a quite daft to downgrade from a perfectly servicable 10R though.

Oh, and I wouldn't mind a better tourer with hard luggage. Maybe BMW
will put the S1000R engine into a Blackbird-and-VFR-killer eventually,
if so that'd do the trick.

Oh yeah, one of those. Umm, MVs seem to leave me completely cold for no
apparent reason. Lack of nostalgia for the brand, I guess. And the
****ing stupid price tag.

As did the one before that. That's the weird thing though - I feel no
particular hankering for a 'blade but I'd still be more inclined to get
one than an R1. I don't know what it is about the Yam but other than the
noise the current one makes (and that itch is scratched by the RSV4)
I've never looked at one and thought "fancy one of them". Ever.

I loved mine and I still think the K4/K5 750 was an oil painting
compared to the thou I've got of the same era. It was a far more
practical road bike.

But if practical was what I was after, I wouldn't have the bikes I do.

I suppose it makes no less sense than people buying Skodas, Porches or
Seats as opposed to genuine VWs.
