Air plasma applied zirconia based thermal barriers have been used for ages
on gas turbine components but usually to keep the heat on the ceramic side.
In this case the ceramic's low thermal conductivity means that it radiates
heat from the surface faster than it can be conducted through from the
metallic substrate. Hence it will maintain a thermal gradient and the inside
remains hotter than the outside. A neat use of an existing technology.

He's predictable, but that's to be expected.
