That's roughly my standard rate for a weekend overnight stint. I'd want
rather more to have to worked over that particular night!

  2. Yes, and there will be more. And there'll be cheaper. So if you wait a
    bit longer...

Oh, hang on, this is where we came in.

Are you serious? If so, does the email in your headers work?

  9. Loads.
It's just like 1993 all over again, but this has happened twice as fast.

  10. Actually, no, it wasn't. Prices continued falling. I know this, because
we sold our gaff in Morden in late 1995, after having had it on the
market for six months and watching prices go lower and lower. We then
moved into a rented flat while we continued looking for a place to live.

We bought the Chateau in early 1996 and moved in in June. We actually
signed contracts at the very nadir of the housing price crash.

Must have been late 89. Guess who bought a house in March 89. Didn't
move for 10 years though, so not a problem.

  12. Just at its worst by 93, from what I recall. People topping themselves
because recession had never hit them before, living in the Sunny South
East as they did for all their lives. The idea of losing everything just
    drove them over the edge.

The small businesses, the specialist niche ones, started disappearing in
    92, fwir.

That ties in with my experience: I bought my last place in the early
nineties, then, barely a couple of years later, tried to sell in a
dead market. The only offer I got was a couple of thousand below the
    mortgate.

Just as well as it turned out: I split up with the then G/F and had
    somewhere to move back into.

I'd say the % deviation looks pretty steady at each peak or trough.

  18. OK, yes. I see prices continued to weaken, but inflation adjusted they
didn't. I know for sure that they continued to weaken through the
mid-1990s because that was when we were selling and buying and we were
    watching very closely.

Also, as others have noted, the recovery happened at different times in
    different areas.
