No argument. I had my first ever trip to the Caribbean last year and
was really looking forward to real bananas and I wasn't disappointed.

The Jaffa Orange not a fruit, it is a means of turning shekels into

And juicer and sweeter than any others we can get on this side of the

discouraging me about going back for a visit, though...

And I sure wish they grew the Shamouti here. Or even in Florida. They
grow fine, but, as the orchardist was telling me the other year, they
aren't enough better than what we got to make it worth replacing the
orchard and losing a few years of production. Another summer like this
one and I may plant a couple in my yard. Until now it hasn't really
been exactly right for them, but this year...

  5. On a Kawasaki you just shift up from first while stopped to find N. It
won't go into 2nd unless you are moving.

Some old bikes, Royal Endfield comes to mind, had a seperate lever to
    select N at any time.

On any British bike you can select neutral at any time, just take
advantage of a gearbox designed with 4 to 6 gears and 28 neutrals.

    [of knowing which gear]
If it's got few dire consequences, why's it important?

FWIW, if I'm accelerating through the highest RPM I wish to use (and
that may vary) then I shift up. If I'm slowing down that I shift down
as necessary. If riding rapidly to a halt, once stopped, I make sure
that I'm in first with a quick click of the lever. I don't see the
need to know the gear *number* unless one of the gears is faulty.

I have. But I don't really see why you couldn't have a lever that you
could push down with your left heel, apart maybe from a concern about
pressing it accidentally as you move around the bike.

At the risk of just repeating myself, "I like to be in 2nd as I have grown
accustomed its cues on road speed." It makes it damn hard to go in too hot,
or look like I'm getting ready to parallel park.

Again, at real risk of repeating myself, "most corners in street riding are
    taken in 2nd gear."

A woman I know, when she's had a few too many beers, gets into this funny
endless loop of repeating what she said two minutes before and not hearing
what was said in between. You're like that, you know. A drunken bitch, that
    is.
If we're to trade insults, you'll need to learn to read. Let me know when
    you're ready.

By you, you mean. But you seem to be implying that it's normal for
everyone, which is just not the case. Most experienced and good road
riders will be in the gear most appropriate for the road, the
conditions, the desired riding style, etc. etc. So some corners may be
in top, others in first. If you always insist on using second gear
then Wessie is right - you're not showing any sign of decent riding
    skills.
Don't be such a twat. It's you who's repeating himself - note that
your replies are to several _different_ people. You're failing to
convince one, then trying to use exactly the same argument on someone
else, with equal lack of success.
    Oh dear oh fucking dear.

    Who else could I mean?
Ahem. "Your 2nd gear might differ."
No kidding. And in Tibet on mountain dirt roads, we might all do something
else. Thanks for pointing it out.
Ahem. "Most..." And it's not on my insistence.

I'm catching on slowly. You're Brits. All from the same public school, no
    doubt.
I know. I hate that. She talks. I reply. She says it again minutes later, as
though we didn't speak, and so I say it again. It goes in circles. Loops. I
just hate it. It's irritating as hell.
That explains it. She's schizophrenic, and this is a Python skit. I should
    have checked the cross-post.
Talk about twat. It was a simple statement; no convincing involved. Count
the gear changes. Know what gear you're in. No, there are no dire
consequences. All the same, just how hard is it for you to keep accurate
    count?

Quiz time. Three blips down from 5th is 2nd gear. What gear am I in after
the same 3 blips starting from 6th?

It's obvious that we ride different. After the third blip and hearing the
expected revs as I come off the brake, what would you say the consequences
might be if I counted wrong? [1]

That's all well and good. There are other cues, too. I would dare say you're
(that would be wessie) the one missing most of what your bike is telling
    you.
