I just opened the ng. Initially it showed 113 new messages. Suddenly the
screen flickered and it changed to 81. WOW! Amazing!

    Mark,

I would say your system is probably just a little slow in applying
a current "view". Perhaps you have some heavy anti-virus process
    filtering active.

    Thanks - Gary Walker

Technology is truly wonderful.. My reader, of course didn't indicate any
such volume of activity.. Curious.. I did a scan throught the newsgroup on
Google.. There I discovered less than half that much activity in the
combined numer of posting for three newsgroups, one a political group with a
very active participation.. With all due respect, and allowing for the lag
time for posts, 3-8 hours, when I have the time, tomorrow.. I will scan the
posts, the contributors and content.. At this point, I question the
credibility of this claim of all the activity, Mark Johnson is declaring..
Giving him the benefit of the doubt, this should not be construed as an
attack.. As usual and SOP of Mark Johnson, he will undoubtedly either
"ignore" or claim he is being attacked by me.. My initial response to his
post nor this one is any form of attack.. Again.. technology is wonderful,
and we all should smile with what can be accomplished through it's many
    marvels..

More likely the filters doing their job.

Same thing happens with me. Sometimes, it's more of a discrepancy than
just 30 or so. All that, with one kill filter. Life is good.

Admittedly some of the 113 were hold overs from previous viewings of the
news group (older messages still marked as unread). But the
dissapearance was a real-time report. In the end, wouldn't that mean
that an even larger % of "brand new" posts vaporized under the searing
    heat of a well-focused filter?

Yes, you are probably correct. Since I don't filter, never thought
    of that. Thanks....

  9. Actually I see even less. I don't filter anyone, just the conversations I
get tired of. After a while I'll just mark it and I don't receive those
downloaded conversations anymore. I just look at the basic content and
decide whether its worth my time or not. After a few messages going
    downhill I just stop looking.

I would imagine that those you killfile, you'll still seem them in other
people's responses, and then you'll respond, so your killfile did nothing.

The only way to stop all this is to avoid the conversations you don't like.
But considering that this OT post was for nothing more than to rile a few
people, I think your killfile will be worthless.
